My Mentoring

Many women are working long hours and juggling the work/ family life balance. It is easy to concentrate on the day-to-day issues and forget the larger picture. Mentors are a sounding board to provide support and guidance, allowing you to put issues into perspective and consider various possibilities.

The mentoring program is the third tranche in our WOB WAY professional development series. Its purpose is to provide a more structured approach for women at all career levels and stages who are considering, aspiring to or already achieving board roles.

Click here to read more about why mentoring might assist you.

What does the program cover?

Each mentoring experience will be different, but the program will typically cover the following areas:

  • Starting or developing your board career.
  • Reframing your thinking from management and executive roles to board speak.
  • Guidance for live board approaches
  • Role playing interviews and general preparation
  • Network brokering

Who are the mentors?

There are 11 mentors available from the five major states in the mentoring program. They are all well known to (and members of) Women on Boards. Each mentor has expressed a desire to take on mentoring work to share their knowledge and expertise to assist other women realise their potential in leadership and directorship roles.

How will the program be delivered?

The program is offered face-to-face (depending on the location of the mentor and mentee), by telephone (call costs borne by mentee) or other form of telephony (e.g. Skype). We also suggest the mentors and mentees use an instant messaging service for online chats - such as Windows Messenger - rather than email.

What will be provided?

Each mentee will receive:

  • An introductory session of 1.5 hours to discuss goals and aspirations for the program.
  • Option to request a different mentor if a 'fit' is not realised.
  • Three one hour face to face or phone sessions.
  • Opportunity to track progress online and provide feedback
  • Follow up correspondence by email after each session
  • Follow up packages as a discount rate.

How much will it cost?

  • $990 for the 1.5 hour introductory session and 3 one-hour sessions
  • $880 for subsequent packages of 3 one hour sessions

(Fees are inclusive of GST. Seventy percent of the fee goes to the mentor and the remainder to WOB.)

All packages are to be booked and paid for using the WOB website. The program is only open to WOB Subscribers.

How do I enrol?

  • Go to My Dashboard/ My Mentoring
  • Click the link to Program Registration
  • Complete the form

Note: The mentoring program is only open to WOB Subscribers. You can subscribe at the time of book (Fee: $132 for one year).

How will the program be evaluated?

Women on Boards is keen to understand the impact and effectiveness of the mentoring program. Mentees and mentors are encouraged to provide feedback via the online form after each session. The program will be reviewed annually to determine if modifications are required.
